I want to go back to school at Montana State University. I am about half way through my undergraduate studies. I want to major in writing and minor in music. I like writing songs so I figured that would make sense. School is more of an excuse to live in Montana.
Dad and I took a road trip up to Montana about a year ago. We bought some fly rods and the necessary supplies and began learning how to flyfish. I fell in love pretty quickly. It took me awhile to catch a fish, but I was content without one. Catching a fish is like icing on the cake. Or ice cream on the cake. I’m not a huge fan of icing. I caught my first fish in the Maddison River south of Enis, a small town in southern Montana.
The thing about flyfishing is most of the time you’re not catching a fish, you’re trying to draw them in with a fly. It’s more fun than bait fishing because you are constantly working your fly. But it takes patience. Finding myself one day in the middle of a river, casting my fly back and forth, with not a soul around, I realized the beauty of the sport. When else would you wade out into the middle of a river surrounded by forest, all by yourself, and stand there for twenty minutes, unless you were twelve years old. Fishing is the best excuse for doing stuff like that.
On that trip, I fell in love with Montana. I got that distinct feeling like I was home. Like I was in my natural habitat.
MSU is located in Bozeman. I hear they are calling it Bozeangeles because of all the people from Los Angeles moving there. I guess I’ll join that bandwagon. We’ll call it San Bozeangeles. Get San Diego involved. I don’t mind that, but housing is going to be tough to find at an affordable cost. God will open the doors. There is a lot that we can plan for, and should plan for, but there are some things that we cannot foresee and we just have to believe that God will work it out. I believe that this is something that God approves of for my life. If this is true then nothing is impossible. It’s not a matter of if I do it, but how. My parents can help out. I don’t want to take out loans. I would like to work but It will be challenging with school. I need to get in-state tuition to bring the cost down. In order to do that I need to live in Montana for a year and prove my commitment to living there. I can work and save money for a year. This will be an adventure and I’m excited. And my cat, Cheeky, is coming with me, so it will be a team effort. She’s low maintenance.
Also, I hear Montana is freezing most of the year. Challenge #1: Stay warm.
I love the outdoors and Montana is the perfect place for that.
